Todd Boehly ‘determined’ to take Chelsea to the top of English football

Todd Boehly is said to be “determined” to help Chelsea return to the top of English football once he takes over as the club’s new owner.

The official announcement of the takeover of the Blues by the American businessman is now imminent, with the Premier League and the British government approving the sale.

The club should therefore change ownership before next season, just three months after it was put up for sale by Roman Abramovich.

The Evening Standard reports that Boehly, who also co-owns MLB team LA Dodgers, is keen to help bring Chelsea “to the pinnacle of English football”.

He also wants to surpass the achievements acquired during the Abramovich era, during which the Blues have won a total of 21 trophies since his arrival in 2003.

It was revealed on Wednesday morning that the UK government had issued the club with a new license so they could complete the sale.

A statement from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport reads: “Late last night the UK Government reached a position where we could issue a license to allow the sale of Chelsea Football Club.
