Carolina Panthers, CMS host Women’s Soccer League Championship at Bank of America Stadium – WSOC TV


CHARLOTTE — The Carolina Panthers and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Athletics will host the final game of the new CMS High School Women’s Flag Football League.

The game will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on May 15 at Bank of America Stadium.

The creation of the league had already been announced on February 1 with student-athletes taking part in a match to celebrate the National Day of Girls and Women in Sport.

Twenty high school teams are part of the league. These include:

  • Butler Bulldogs
  • Catholic cougars
  • Cougar Rooms
  • East Mecklenburg Eagles
  • Garinger Wildcats
  • Harding Rams
  • Hopewell Titans
  • Hough Huskies (2 teams)
  • Independence Patriots
  • Mallard Creek Mavericks
  • Myers Park Mustangs
  • North Mecklenburg Vikings
  • olympic trojans
  • Cardinals Phillip O. Berry
  • Rocky Mountain Crows
  • Southern Mecklenburg sabers
  • West Charlotte LionsWest Mecklenburg Hawks

The club-level intramural program was designed to provide high school girls with the opportunity to participate in the burgeoning sport of flag football, event organizers said.

Carolina Panthers Charities said it provided $50,000 in program funding, school resources and custom Nike school uniforms.

“Partnering with CMS Athletics to pilot the Girls High School Flag Football League has proven to be a significant opportunity for female student-athletes,” said Riley Fields, Director of Community Relations for Carolina Panther. “We are thrilled to offer teams the opportunity to end their seasons at Bank of America Stadium knowing that they have laid the foundation for future opportunities for girls in other school districts in our region. We are thrilled to the continued growth of the sport.
