The flag football season got off to a strong start last weekend, with the White Rock-South Surrey Titans – and other associations from across the Lower Mainland – taking part in a jamboree-style Week 1 program in Coquitlam.
In total, the Titans fielded 29 teams – in a variety of age categories – at Coquitlam’s downtown park. Each team played three to four games on Saturday (April 23), with each game lasting 30 minutes. Other associations that participated were Richmond, New Westminster, Langley, South Delta, North Delta, Coquitlam, North Surrey and Cloverdale.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the first time in several years that the provincial flag football season has taken place.
“Saturday couldn’t have been a better day of football for all the players (and) the coaches – we’ve been waiting for this for two years!” Tina Giustino, Vice President of the Titans Association, said Peace Ark News by email.
Week 2 action moves to Cloverdale Athletic Park, featuring the same teams. Matches in Week 3 (May 7 and 8) will take place at John Oliver Park in Delta, and the following week Newton Athletic Park will be the host venue.
The seven-week season ends June 10-12, with the Provincial Championships hosted by the Titans at South Surrey Athletic Park.
