Ahly and Wydad are set to meet in the final after the Cairo giants beat ES Setif of Algeria 4-0 at home, while the Moroccan champions secured a 3-1 win away ‘Angola Petro Atletico, making this weekend’s second leg a mere formality. .

In a press release posted on its website, CAF revealed that it had received two offers to host the final. The first came from the Senegalese Football Federation, which was later withdrawn, and the second from the Moroccan Football Federation.

“CAF is therefore pleased to award the organization of the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Final to Morocco. The date of the final is May 30, 2022,” read the CAF statement.

Ahly formally asked CAF on Sunday to choose a neutral venue for the final to ensure fair play and equity between the contenders.

“Ahly stressed in the letter that the final should not be hosted by any of the countries of the four teams participating in the CAF Champions League semi-finals and that a neutral venue will provide equal opportunities for the four teams. “Ahly said in a statement.

The Reds also opposed holding the Champions League final at the Stade Mohammed V for the second consecutive year.

CAF also said in their statement that there are currently ongoing discussions to revert to the old two-legged home-and-away final instead of the one-legged final that was decided in 2019.
