The ESPN GEICO 2022 kickoff lineup was released on Tuesday, and the showcase of two nationally televised high school football games features some of the best teams and players in the country.
St. Joseph’s Prep (Pennsylvania) will face St. Thomas Aquinas (Florida) in Game 1 and Los Alamitos (California) will face American Heritage (Florida) in Game 2. The matches will be played back-to-back on Saturday, August 27.
St. Thomas Aquinas finished the 2021 season ranked 13th on the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 National High School Football Rankings. The four teams participating in the GEICO Kickoff event will receive a national ranking this fall.
St. Joseph’s Prep star linebacker Josiah Trotter, a clerk from West Virginia, will be tasked with slowing St. Thomas Aquinas halfback Xavier Terrell in Game 1. Terrell is one of eight Raiders in the Class of 2023 who hold at least one Division 1 scholarship offer.
Game 2 features two of the best offenses in the nation. Los Alamitos have two USC commitments on their 2023 roster in quarterback Malachi Nelson and 2023 wide receiver Makai Lemon. One of Florida’s top pass catchers of 2023, Brandon Inniss, will lead American Heritage.
