Over 900 athletes from 20 men’s and 20 women’s teams will compete for top honors in the first edition of the Nigerian Secondary School Flag Football League (NSSFFL) due to kick off today (Thursday) in Lagos.

The Games, which will end on June 17, will be held for three days a week at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. The founder of the American Football League (NAFA) in Nigeria, Babajide Akeredolu, said the first edition was organized in partnership with the Lagos State government.

“We initially focused on this group because we understand that competition at this stage of youth development opens up opportunities for healthy habits, psychological growth and immediate scholarship and recruitment opportunities for the most talented players. gifted both at home and abroad,” Akeredolu said. .

He continued: “For us, the greatest achievement will be to see our young boys and girls channel their youthful energy into this very rewarding sport by helping the league to birth something that will create a better economy.”

He added that the talents uncovered during the competition would be used to create a strong all-star squad that could represent Lagos in interstate competitions and also give them the opportunity to be part of the national team that will be formed in 2023.
